Unlike other sites, we aren't going to bury you in technical information, but we are going to share tips and advice I learned when I was learning to sky dive.

A couple of years ago I was willing to throw myself out a perfectly good airplane. Worst of all, I wasn't really keen on doing tandem jumps, and I wanted my own parachute. Considering how many people I met in class that didn't ever skydive, it seemed common to jump into this sport/hobby full-force.

Why I wanted to Learn To SkyDive?

For many reasons.

  • SkyDiving is portrayed as an extreme sport, so the rush is intense.
  • I am an Adrenaline Junkie.
  • SkyDiving doesn't feel like falling, it feels like flying.
  • I don't like heights.

I'm sure a few people are taken by the fact I don't like heights. For some reason, since I do not like heights working from, or jumping from, gives me a real rush. Now since it's not a crippling phobia, I was able to contemplate SkyDiving. I addressed any fears I had by reading up on what safety procedures, and equipment are used. So later you will see that I recommend researching prior even trying skydiving.

What were my initial SkyDiving Fears(before even trying)?

My first fear was the cost. Strange, but that was a driving force. Because of this, I wanted to avoid the tandem skydiving jumps and head right into actual skydiving. I the initial cost of the first jump was high, and the subsequent jumps in training were high, although less than the initial one. So, I had to ensure my finances were secure, and I had saved up cash to start learning.

My second fear was the fear of falling. I don't recall being afraid of heights, just falling from them. This is why I can climb trees, hang out on tall building roofs, but wouldn't play around. I would stay clear of unsecured roof edges, and when climbing trees I maintained three points of contact. I enjoy heights, not the idea of falling.
